LONDON: Chelsea brought a new depth to the Premier League title race after they handed Manchester City their first defeat of the season on Saturday.

The shocking defeat had left Liverpool as the only undefeated team in the Premier League, who went on top after a 4-0 win against Bournemouth, with a hat-trick from Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian's hat-trick, which silenced critics who sees him as a one-season wonder, had moved Liverpool a point clear of defending champions Man City.

Liverpool's top position was expected to last for just a couple of hours, but City's spirit was dented by the shock defeat, with goals from N'Golo Kante and David Luiz.

The results left Liverpool on top with 42 points after 16 games and the only team undefeated team in the league after City's 21-match unbeaten streak which started in April, ended.

Chelsea's win moved them into third with 34 points, ahead of Arsenal on goal difference after the Gunners beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 with a brilliant bicycle kick from Lucas Torreira.

Liverpool' manager, Jurgen Klopp, saluted his side's performance as 'absolutely brilliant' with Salah making his way alongside Arsenal's Pierre Americk Aubameyang at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts with 10 goals.
