Arvind Bharet, the assistant head of Jelai Pakatan's operation centre, clarified that party workers were giving petrol reimbursements to its volunteers in the said photographs.
"On the photos that have gone viral on social media, I would like to stress that these are reimbursements for petrol given to Pakatan's volunteers, who came from the interior to Tanah Rata to show support during nomination day.
"This reimbursement will be delivered as part of our election expenses.
"All will be done according to the law.
"DAP, as a component party of Pakatan Harapan, believes in a clean and transparent election and we will hold true to this principle throughout our campaign," said Arvind in a statement.
Photographs of a woman wearing a red Pakatan Harapan t-shirt handing out money to party supporters were swiftly making rounds on social media.
Pakatan candidate M. Manogaran said he had no knowledge of the incident.
"I was not there and I just came to know about it this morning (Jan 13).
"We will investigate and come out with an appropriate response later on. I need to find out what actually happened.
"I did not arrange for such things (handing out money). Give me some time to check out the details. I just saw the pictures," said Manogaran at a press conference here during his visit to the Pos Menson orang asli settlement.
The Cameron Highlands polls was called after the Election Court on Nov 30 declared Barisan’s win in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat null and void, as it found corrupt practices had been committed.
The incumbent, Datuk C. Sivarraajh, did not appeal the court’s decision.
