ROTTERDAM: Netherlands has proved that their poor form that made them miss out on the last two major tournaments by beating France 2-0 at home.
Georginio Wijnaldum fired home just before
halftime and Memphis Depay scored a late penalty as the Dutch
dominated against the world champions, looking much changed from the
side that missed out on the 2016 European Championship and the last
World Cup in Russia.
Ronald Koeman, Netherlands manager who used to get a big clap back from the fans after throwing away all of the experienced players from the team and focusing on the youngsters instead, said that he was really happy with the unexpected win.
"I also did not expect that this team would be
as far in their reading of a match. We’ve shown on such a night that
we’ve made enormous steps. From the beginning to the end we played
really well," Koeman said.
Netherlands' star player, Memphis Depay said that the young team is on the right track to achieve bigger things in football.
