Poems Are Banned In Official Millitary Events

Petaling Jaya: The Malaysian Armed Forces has issued an order to not have the emcees use poems or jokes during official military events.

The Malaysian Armed Forces has refuted claims that it has abandoned the culture by banning poems in official events because official events by the Armed Forces are regimental in nature and its execution must be conducted with protocol and military ethics.

Examples include events involving the  Yang di-Pertuan Agong, parades and official events officiated by the Armed Forces or its service branches," said the statement issued today.

However, Armed Forces stated that poems or jokes are still allowed in non regimental events, such as sports meets, family events and non official events.

This issue went viral after Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim tweeted about the internal memo of the supposed ban, which was reported by local newspapers.

In his tweet, he questioned the point of banning 'pantun' and asked those literature warriors to fight.
